This week The Philadelphia Antiques Show opens at the Navy Pier. This great location allows the dealers, including myself, to exhibit some of the best antiques available in America.
Amongst the items I'm exhibiting is this extremely rare Chinese Bowl made for a Swedish sea captain. The Large Punch Bowl is decorated on the outside with eight medallions of a ship in different positions below a garland. All the decoration is en grisaille. A single ship is painted in the interior well.
On the base is a painted inscription reading:
RIT UTI CANTON af D.F. Neuendorf Ano 1780
(Designed in Canton by D.F. Neuendorf in 1780)
Reference: La Porcelain des Compagnies des Indes a Decor Occidental by Francois et Nicole Hervouet for the same bowl where the information provided by The Gotesborgs Historical Museum
